Trump and Harris neck-and-neck one day before the election

In the polls: Trump and Harris are tied at 47% among likely voters in the latest Yahoo News/YouGov poll. Meanwhile, a poll from Iowa, which has been considered a bellwether for past elections, showed Harris leading Trump 47% to 44%. [Yahoo News/Des Moines Register]

3 QUESTIONS

...about Trump and Harris’s policies

Still not sure who you’re voting for? Anthony asked Andrew Romano, who’s been covering the 2024 election, about Harris and Trump’s policy plans.

Anthony: The economy has become a top issue for voters in this election. What policies have the two candidates proposed?

Andrew: Both want to extend middle-class tax cuts. Trump would keep cutting taxes for Americans making over $400,000 a year, while Harris wouldn’t. Her plans focus more on lowering child care, housing and grocery costs. Trump wants new tariffs on foreign goods to protect jobs and raise revenue, but that could raise prices for Americans.

Anthony: Trump has made immigration a focus of his campaign. How do his plans differ from Harris’s?

Andrew: Trump has called the U.S. an “occupied country.” He plans to launch the “largest domestic deportation” in U.S. history, which would require undocumented residents to be detained while they wait to be expelled. Harris wants to pass the bipartisan border bill and create an “earned” pathway to citizenship.

Anthony: What do they plan to do when it comes to reproductive rights and abortion?

Andrew: If Harris can get enough votes in Congress — and that’s a big if — she wants to pass a federal law that legalizes abortion in much the same way Roe v. Wade did. She insists Trump would try to ban abortion nationwide. Trump says he wouldn’t and that he prefers the post-Roe status quo, where states decide.
