Trump expected to announce VP pick at RNC Monday: What we know and don't know

Former President Donald Trump has made his running mate choice, and the nominee will be seen in-person at 3:37 p.m. CT at the beginning of the VP nomination process, USA TODAY reported.

Here's what we do and don't know about Trump's running mate announcement:

Who is Trump's VP pick?

Two names on Trump's short list have been notified they have not been chosen: Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum. That leaves Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance on the short list, though Trump could make a surprise pick.

Who is J.D. Vance?

Vance is a Republican U.S. senator from Ohio. He's seen as a contender who would be loyal to Trump and performs well in media interviews. Vance is the author of “Hillbilly Elegy," a memoir that could be compelling with swing voters.

Who is Marco Rubio?

Rubio is a Republican U.S. senator from Florida. Rubio is considered strong on foreign policy and could help the party reach Hispanic voters. Trump has noted that Rubio's residency in Florida could be a problem — a constitutional requirement means the state's delegates can't vote for both Trump and Rubio.

Who is Doug Burgum?

Burgum is the Republican governor of North Dakota. Burgum has personal wealth and business experience and is viewed as a similar choice to former Vice President Mike Pence. Burgum ran for president this cycle but exited the race in December.

Did Trump plan to reveal his VP pick at the RNC?

Yes, though it was possible the announcement would come a few days before the convention, as it has in past election cycles.

"That's probably a pretty good chance, I would say. I don't say anything is 100 percent, but you're getting pretty close. I'll be doing it in Milwaukee," Trump said in May during an interview with Milwaukee's TMJ4.
