'Girl dad', firefighter, Trump supporter: Corey Comperatore killed at Pennsylvania rally
The spectator killed at Donald Trump's Saturday rally was a firefighter, avid Trump supporter and "girl dad," officials said Sunday.
Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro identified the man killed at Trump's rally as Corey Comperatore.
"Corey was a girl dad. Corey was a firefighter," Shapiro told reporters Sunday. "Corey went to church every Sunday. Corey loved his community and, most especially, Corey loved his family."
Comperatore was killed during a gunman's attempted assassination of Former President Trump at his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Two other attendees were also hospitalized.
“Corey died a hero,” Shapiro continued. “Corey dove on his family to protect them last night at this rally. Corey was the very best of us. May his memory be a blessing.”
In a press conference Sunday afternoon, President Joe Biden said he and his family extended their “deepest condolences” to Comperatore’s family.
“He was a father,” Biden said. “He was protecting his family from the bullets that were being fired, and he lost his life. God love him.”
One of Comperatore's daughters, Allyson, updated her Facebook profile picture to a photo of her and her dad on Sunday. Dozens of people commented on the photo sharing their sympathies.
Reporters contacted the Comperatore family on Sunday afternoon, but they declined to comment on the incident to newspapers at this time. On the call, family members said that they are currently working on a prepared statement about their family's loss.
2 Trump rally shooting victims remain in critical condition Sunday
The FBI identified the gunman as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, who was killed by Secret Service agents moments after shots rang out at Trump's rally. The former president was hit in the ear, causing blood to spatter on his face, but was otherwise unharmed.
Two other people who attended Trump's rally are being treated at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh and remain in critical condition, Nikki Buccina, a spokesperson for the Allegheny Health Network confirmed.
A Trump-endorsed GoFundMe page was launched seeking donations for rally attendees who were injured or killed in the shooting. As of Sunday, it had raised over $1 million.

Over 16,000 people donated to a GoFundMe to support Trump rally attendees injured or killed on Saturday. The GoFundMe had a goal of $1 million, and had surpassed that Sunday with $1,171,688.
Several large contributions from notable donors included $50,000 from singer and Trump supporter Kid Rock, $30,000 from Republican and former presidential hopeful Vivek Ramaswamy, and $15,000 from conservative political commentator Ben Shapiro.
Jason Bubb, who owns a gym about 8 miles away from Butler, Pennsylvania, launched a separate GoFundMe for Comperatore's daughter, Allyson. By early Sunday afternoon, it had raised over $200,000.
"Saturday night, our friend and family, Allyson, lost her father due to a senseless, tragic act at the Trump Rally in Butler," the GoFundMe page read. "Allyson has been an athlete with us since the beginning. She’s a huge part of our community. If you’re able to support her and her family during this time, we will have a spot for donations at the gym. Additionally, please take the time to sign the cards at the desk."
