Trump Scraps Town Hall Q+A, Plays Music Videos for Crowd Instead
Former President Donald Trump cut short a town hall in Oaks, Pennsylvania, on Monday after two attendees reportedly passed out.
Trump held the event with South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (who made headlines in April for executing her puppy and writing about it) and answered a handful of questions from supporters before pausing the town hall due to the attendees requiring medical attention. At some point, Trump joked, “Personally, I enjoy this. We lose weight, you know. No, you lose weight. We could do this — lose four or five pounds.” He added, “Would anybody else like to faint? Please raise your hand.”
The Republican presidential candidate soon opted out of the town hall altogether, and he told the crowd, “Let’s not do any more questions. Let’s just listen to music. Who the hell wants to hear questions?”
As the impromptu musical episode played out onstage, Trump swayed slightly and Noem led the audience in a “YMCA” sing-along. Among the videos played were Elvis Presley performing “An American Trilogy,” Sinéad O’Connor singing “Nothing Compares 2 U” (her estate has demanded he stop playing her music at rallies), “November Rain” by Guns N’ Roses, and Barbra Streisand’s “Memory.” Notably, both Axl Rose and Streisand have been outspoken about their disdain for the former president.
In an attempt to spin the situation as anything but bizarre, Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung touted on X: “Something very special is happening in Pennsylvania right now at the Trump townhall. @realDonaldTrump is unlike any politician in history, and it’s great.”
With 22 days until Election Day, Vice President Kamala Harris was also in the battleground state on Monday evening, during which she vowed to the crowd gathered at Erie to sign a bill restoring Roe v. Wade, lower costs for middle class families, and provide an expanded child tax credit.
During her speech, Harris also called Trump “increasingly unstable and unhinged.” She continued, “He is out for unchecked power, that is what he is looking for. He wants to send the military after American citizens.”
