Trump's Mar-a-Lago in the headlines: Did you miss these Palm Beach Daily News stories?
The Mar-a-Lago Club has made plenty of national news headlines since it was fist dubbed the winter White House after former President Donald Trump's election in 2020. And the historic property in Palm Beach has continued to grab reporters' attention in the contentious aftermath of his administration.
The 17.5-acre estate once again made news late last week, when a New York justice in a civil fraud trial ruled that Trump must pay $355 million in penalties for fraudulently overvaluing real estate assets — including Mar-a-Lago —to benefit The Trump Organization in for bank loans and insurance deals. Judge Arthur Engoron also essentially barred Trump, among other penalties, from doing business in New York for three years.
The Palm Beach Daily News has been covering Mar-a-Lago since the elaborate mansion was built in the 1920s by the late cereal heiress Marjorie Merriweather Post, long before Trump bought the estate in 1995 and opened his private club about a decade later.
