If you watched the Olympic Men’s Swimming 4x200m freestyle relay Tuesday night, you saw Ryan Lochte’s spray tan. The third-leg swimmer of the gold medal team received quite the reaction from fans after stripping down to his swim trunks to reveal a bronze-orange bod to the entire arena. And although we’re not hating on Lochte’s right to tan, the contrast with his new light ‘do is a bit shocking.

After debuting his bleach blue hair on Instagram just last week, fans of Lochte got used to the look, thinking it would be his only Olympic surprise. But following the swimmer’s tanned appearance at the 2012 Olympic trials, this could have been expected. As per usual, Twitter led the conversation about Lochte’s shocking hue, with tweets referring back to his pre-London look.

And best of all are the confused fans who simply haven’t caught on to the reason behind Lochte’s look.

Yes, tweeters, it appears that Ryan Lochte got a spray tan.

The better question is: How does his tan manage to stay on after swimming 200m at Olympic speeds? Keep us posted, Lochte. Please.
