Abita Springs traffic stop turns up 1,000 fentanyl pills

ABITA SPRINGS, La. (WGNO) — Two people were arrested after a traffic stop led to a drug bust in the Abita Springs area on Sunday, Aug. 18.
Two arrested following two-month Ponchatoula drug investigation
The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies pulled over a car that had been reported as stolen from Mississippi while patrolling near the Abita Nursery Subdivision.
During the stop, deputies said they came into contact with the driver, identified as 46-year-old James Spike, and his passenger, 44-year-old Emelda Matthews.
In the car, STPSO deputies said they found a brake container with about 1,000 fentanyl pills.

Spikes was arrested and faces charges of illegal possession of stolen things, possession with the intent to distribute a schedule II CDS and drug paraphernalia.
Matthews was arrested and faces charges of illegal possession of stolen things, possession with the intent to distribute a schedule II CDS, drug paraphernalia and resisting an officer by refusing to identify.
