Two people fighting for their lives after crash on Interstate 70

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Two people are fighting for their lives after a crash early Monday morning on Interstate 70, according to the Independence Police Department.

The crash happened around 1:30 a.m. when an eastbound Dodge truck hit a trailer-mounted MoDOT sign west of Lee’s Summit Road. IPD said the attenuator was being used to protect a street sweeper contracted by MoDOT.

After the driver of the Dodge hit the attenuator, they lost control, ran off the roadway and rolled over.  Two passengers were ejected from the Dodge.

The driver of the Dodge pickup was taken to a hospital with minor, non-life-threatening injuries. The two passengers who were ejected were taken to a hospital with serious injuries and are in critical condition.

The Independence Police Department is investigating the crash.
