U.S. House approves renaming Kingsland post office after Johnny Cash

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – On Monday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed legislation to rename the post office in Kingsland, Arkansas, after music legend and Arkansas-native Johnny Cash.

The legislation, H.R. 7180, sponsored by Rep. Bruce Westerman (R-AR-04) will officially designate the post office as the Kingsland ‘Johnny Cash’ Post Office.

“The unanimous passage of this bill is a testament to the legacy Johnny Cash left behind through service to his country, his iconic music, and the deep impact he and his family have had on the Natural State,” Westerman stated.

Cash, who was born in Kingsland, performed a concert to celebrate the post office’s opening in 1994 with his wife June Carter Cash and also had a pictorial stamp with the Kingsland postmark created in his honor.

The news of the renaming of the post office is just the latest way the country music icon is being honored in his home state. Later this fall, a statue of Cash will be added to National Statuary Hall at the U.S. Capitol, joining a monument to civil rights champion Daisy Bates placed there earlier this year.
