UAW president blasts Trump as ‘all talk,’ draws sharp contrast with Harris

The United Auto Workers union released a new video Monday blasting former President Trump as “all talk,” escalating the long-running feud between the Republican presidential nominee and UAW President Shawn Fain.

Fain also drew a sharp contrast between Trump and Vice President Harris, whom the union endorsed last month in the upcoming presidential race.

“Donald Trump is all talk and no action when it comes to delivering for autoworkers,” Fain said in the video.

“But you know who did walk the picket line in 2019 with striking [General Motors] workers? Kamala Harris,” Fain continued.

Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, whom Harris tapped last week as her running mate, also met with UAW members last week in Michigan, and the vice president described herself as a “lifelong supporter of union labor.”

Fain and Trump have traded barbs for months. The union president accused Trump of working for the “billionaire class” during the union’s six-week strike against three major automakers last fall and called the former president a “scab” during his speech endorsing President Biden in January.

Trump criticized Fain as a “dope” for endorsing Biden and a “stupid person” last Sunday following the union’s endorsement of Harris. He also called for Fain to be fired during his speech at the Republican National Convention last month, which the union responded to by calling him “a scab and a billionaire.”

“The record is clear. Donald Trump is all talk, but Kamala Harris has delivered for autoworkers,” Fain said in the new video.

In response to the new video, Trump campaign spokesperson Karoline Leavitt told The Hill that Trump “did more for the auto industry in four years than any President in history.”

“Shawn Fain is a puppet for the Democrat Party who is sadly not serving the millions of hardworking union laborers across the country who are supporting President Trump because they know he will protect their jobs and put them first,” Leavitt said.

“Shawn Fain’s empty words don’t matter — President Trump will take action to fight for the American auto worker,” Leavitt added.
