Vacherie man arrested following joint-parish drug, gun bust

ST. JAMES PARISH, La. (WGNO) — A Vacherie man was arrested after a joint-parish investigation led to a traffic stop and drug bust on Tuesday, Aug. 13.

The St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office reported that Special Investigations Division detectives began working with St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division detectives to conduct an investigation into alleged drug activity involving 19-year-old Ayomide Isiah Kehinde Akinwande in July.

Slidell man arrested in connection with child pornography investigation

On Tuesday, SJBPSO deputies pulled over a car in which Akinwande reportedly was a passenger.

During the stop, SJBPSO detectives said they recovered a “large quantity” of marijuana, two guns and money.

Akinwande was arrested and booked into the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office Correctional Facility on charges of transactions involving proceeds from CDS activity, two counts of illegal carrying of weapons with CDS and possession with the intent to distribute a schedule I (marijuana.)

SJPSO detectives said they later searched Akinwande’s Vacherie home.

Body found along railroad tracks in Jefferson Parish

During the search, detectives said they recovered heroin/fentanyl, cocaine, marijuana, a handgun, two short-barrel rifles and a machine pistol with an attached suppressor.

According to the SJPSO, Akinwande will be transported to the St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office Correctional Facility and booked on charges of possession with the intent to distribute a schedule I (marijuana), possession with the intent to distribute a schedule I (heroin/fentanyl), possession with the intent to distribute a schedule II (cocaine), four counts of illegal carrying of a weapon while in possession of a CDS, unlawful posting of criminal activity for notoriety and publicity and possession or dealing in unregistered or illegally transferred weapons.
