Vera's Brenda Blethyn lands first role since show's ending
Vera star Brenda Blethyn has announced her next project following her exit from the hit ITV detective series.
Blethyn announced in April that she was bowing out of the series after the 14th and final season which will consist of two feature-length episodes, set to air next year.
Speaking to The Sun, the actress said: "I've just finished a film written and directed by Paul Andrew Williams. I don't know when that's coming, it's actually untitled."

The actress also spoke about Vera's final two episodes, saying: "Yeah, it was quite emotional. Hopefully it's up to its normal standard, and I've not seen them yet, the last two episodes. But the stories are all good."
In a statement announcing her departure from Vera during the filming of the final season, Blethyn said: "Working on Vera has been a joy from beginning to end and I’m sad to be saying cheerio. But I am so proud of our achievements over the last fourteen years.
"I’ll be forever grateful to the wonderful Ann Cleeves who created Vera, and to Elaine Collins who saw fit to cast me in the role.

"The Producers, dream cast and crew have been fabulous and I’m going to miss them, but I won’t forget their huge talent, the camaraderie, laughter or kindness we shared nor the friendship of the people of the north east and our fans worldwide. Thank you from the bottom of my heart."
The actress told fans on X (formerly Twitter) in July she was feeling "tired and emotional" after filing her final scenes as Vera.
Vera seasons 1-13 are available to stream on ITVX.
