Vice President Kamala Harris endorsed by Louisiana DNC Delegation for presidential nomination
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — On the heels of President Joe Biden’s decision to drop out of the presidential race, there have been preliminary talks of Vice President Kamala Harris entering the race for commander-in-chief.
Days before the announcement, former President Donald Trump accepted the party nomination for the Republican presidential nominee. This earned him the support of Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry.
“She began to coalesce the Democratic elected officials from around the country in 18 hours with over, you know, somewhere between $80 and $100 million. And there’s a lot of excitement about it,” said Co-Chair of Kamala Harris’ campaign Mitch Landrieu.

Biden, along with other members of the Louisiana DNC Delegation, including Congressman Troy Carter, have thrown their support behind Harris and have chosen to endorse her as the potential 2024 Democratic presidential nominee.
“This could save them from a total landslide,” said political analyst Jeff Crouere. “I think if Biden would have been the candidate, they would have lost in huge numbers across the board. This could salvage their prospects.”
Louisiana Democratic Party Chair Randal Gaines says the delegates are grateful for Biden’s “remarkable leadership” and are committed to honoring his legacy by keeping the White House in Democratic hands.

“I am proud to share that Louisiana’s Democratic delegates will join President Biden in endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris as our nominee. It’s time we come together, and by throwing our full support behind her, we can beat Donald Trump again and continue Joe Biden’s legacy of accomplishments and progress for our country. We look forward to a productive, energizing and historic convention in which we nominate the first Black woman as our Democratic nominee,” said Gaines.
Harris must qualify to receive votes from convention delegates at the Democratic National Convention that is set to run from Aug. 19 to Aug. 22 in Chicago.
“She’s got to earn it,” said Marc Morial, the head of the National Urban League and former New Orleans mayor. “She’s got to fight for it. She’s got to work for it. I think there’ll be lots of close scrutiny on every speech she makes and every public appearance she makes and all the words she uses. And I think that’s what you’re going to see. But I think there’s a level of excitement.”
