VIDEO: Hail falls from sky in Valley Center amid isolated storms

VALLEY CENTER, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — Despite the heat wave that’s been scorching all of San Diego County, some parts of the region also saw thunderstorms with rain, wind and hail over the weekend.

The National Weather Service predicted a chance of isolated storms for the valleys, mountains and deserts both Saturday and Sunday, warning they could bring locally heavy rainfall, “erratic gusty winds,” as well as lightning.

Did hot weather have anything to do with the chemical smell in North County?

Specifically on Sunday, hail fell from the sky in Valley Center. FOX 5/ KUSI caught the weather event on camera in two separate locations, as seen in the video below:

The icy pellets may have come as surprise to those in the area, who saw high temperatures up to 100 degrees Sunday.

Looking ahead, the weather service says hot conditions are expected to continue into Monday across the region. By Wednesday, however, significant cooling can be expected — at last.
