Do I need to register to vote?
Yes, you can check your voter registration status here.
How do I do that?
You can register in-person at the Division of Motor Vehicles and online at its website or by printing and mailing in a paper form. Find more detailed instructions here at the State Board of Elections’ website.
What's the deadline?
The deadline to register to vote in the 2024 general elections is 5 p.m. on Oct. 11. Even after that, though, you can still register in-person during early voting as long as you have proof of residence.

Can I vote by mail?
Any registered North Carolina voter can request an absentee ballot. You can request one online or by submitting a paper form by mail or in person at your county board of elections. Your request must be received by Oct. 29. Find more information about absentee voting by-mail here.
What's the latest date I can turn in my ballot?
Absentee ballots must arrive at your county board of elections by 7:30 p.m. on Election Day.
