With Election Day coming up on Nov. 5, here's your guide for all things related to casting your vote in North Dakota. To see guides for other states, click here.

Do I need to register to vote?

No, North Dakota does not require voter registration. Anyone who is a U.S. citizen, is at least 18 years old and has lived in North Dakota for 30 days prior to Election Day can vote.

How do I do that?

You do not need to register to vote, but you do need to have a valid form of identification to vote. These include a North Dakota driver’s license, non-driver’s license, a tribal ID or letter, or a long-term care certificate.

What's the deadline?

There is no deadline because anyone who lives in North Dakota can vote.

Where do I find out where my polling site is?

You can find your polling place on the My Voting Information portal on the North Dakota Secretary of State’s website.

Can I vote by mail?

You can request to vote absentee in North Dakota. In vote-by-mail counties, voting age residents are mailed an absentee ballot application by their county auditor. In all other counties, a voter must request an absentee ballot application from the county auditor. Voter ID Laws still apply when absentee voting. The absentee ballot applications require voters to provide their valid ID information.

What's the latest date I can turn in my ballot?

Absentee ballots must be postmarked or dropped off in person by the 5 p.m. on the day before Election Day, Nov. 4.

Is there a way I can track my ballot?

You can track your absentee mail ballots in the portal on the North Dakota’s Secretary of State website by entering your last name and date of birth.

What if I need help getting to the polling site?

Federal law requires election officials to respect the rights of accessible voter registration and polling places. Voters with disabilities can also request an absentee ballot. If they don’t have an ID or have mobility challenges that prevent them from getting an ID, they may use an attester to vouch for their identity.
