VP Harris to campaign in Detroit this week; Harris to join Oprah for event

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Vice President and presidential candidate Kamala Harris will campaign in Detroit later this week with Oprah Winfrey. The announcement comes from the Harris-Walz campaign.

In a statement released Monday morning, Winfrey, a media mogul, actress and author, said she and Harris would be talking “about what is at stake in this election.”

“What is essential to me is getting people motivated to vote, and ensuring everyone makes a plan not only for themselves but for their families and friends,” Winfrey said according to CBS Detroit. “So, on Thursday, Sept. 19, at 8 p.m. ET, I am hosting a virtual event with Vice President Kamala Harris and voters from across our great nation to talk through these freedoms we’re fighting for and how you can help us win.”

Vice President Kamala Harris will join Oprah Winfrey for a livestream event that will be recorded at an undisclosed location in Michigan, according to campaign staff.

The “Unite for America” livestream is scheduled for Thursday from 8 to 10 p.m. and will be Harris’ third visit to Michigan in this campaign.

During her most recent visit, Harris spoke with labor union leaders and workers in Detroit. During the event, Harris touted her record of putting workers first and showed her support for union members throughout the speech.

Former president and current Republican presidential candidate Donald J. Trump is also campaigning in Michigan this week and is scheduled to hold a town hall in Flint tomorrow (Tuesday).
