VP Harris and Oprah link up for campaign event in Detroit

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Sitting Vice President and Democratic vice presidential candidate Kamala Harris will campaign in Detroit Thursday night, joined by Oprah Winfrey. In a statement released Monday morning, Winfrey, media personality, actress, and author, said she and Harris will discuss “what is at stake in this election.”

The event will be livestreamed beginning at 8:00 p.m. EST, and is expected to wrap up at 10:00 p.m.

“What is essential to me is getting people motivated to vote, and ensuring everyone makes a plan not only for themselves but for their families and friends,” Winfrey said according to CBS Detroit. “So, on Thursday, Sept. 19, at 8 p.m. ET, I am hosting a virtual event with Vice President Kamala Harris and voters from across our great nation to talk through these freedoms we’re fighting for and how you can help us win.”

During her most recent visit, Harris spoke with labor union leaders and workers in Detroit, touting her record of putting workers first and showed her support for union members throughout the speech.

Former president and currently Republican Presidential candidate Donald J. Trump also campaigned in Michigan this week—holding a town hall in Flint where he was joined by Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
