WATCH: Drifting boat ripped below bridge as Roan Mountain floods

ROAN MOUNTAIN, Tenn. (WJHL) — A pontoon boat floating on floodwaters was torn to pieces in Roan Mountain on Friday.

News Channel 11’s crew in Roan Mountain captured video of the boat as it floated toward the bridge along Main Street in the town.

Roan Mountain evacuated amid flooding

The boat struck the bridge and was then pulled underneath. Crews at the scene saw the pieces of the boat spit out on the other side.

An evacuation of Roan Mountain was ordered earlier Friday morning as floodwaters rose, coming over bridges and covering parks.

Shelters are in place at several Carter County schools and churches, with several people from Roan Mountain heading to Cloudland High School for safety.
