WATCH: Fierce winds shear roof off local rec center
BROOK PARK, Ohio (WJW) — The FOX 8 I-Team has obtained dramatic new video from this week’s severe weather, and we’ve learned Brook Park is already looking for state and federal disaster aid.
Brook Park took a hard hit from a tornado and fierce winds. Stunning police video shows a roof blown off of the Brook Park Recreation Center.
Northeast Ohio tornadoes: See the path of the storms
The mayor said the storm caused millions and millions of dollars worth of damage. Winds tore through a city government complex, and the wicked weather did heavy damage in neighborhoods.
Brook Park Mayor Ed Orcutt said the lieutenant governor toured the area on Thursday, met with storm victims and gathered information. That could lead to aid from the state.
“Its devastating,” Orcutt told the I-Team. “It’s absolutely terrible.
“We are going to need some help financially. This is going to be devastating to our community. We all pay taxes, and money is appropriated at the state level and federal level. I would hope that they would understand.”
New estimates: Here’s when power could come back
There’s no word yet on how long that process might take, or what it might be for storm victims.
In the meantime, Cleveland City Councilman Mike Polensek this week issued a call for a disaster declaration for the hardest-hit areas including the city of Cleveland.
