Watch Kamala Harris receive the Democratic nomination for president on Milwaukee soil
We've known for some time that Donald Trump would become the Republican nominee for U.S. president as part of the Republican National Convention held in the city in July.
What we didn't know was that his opponent would receive a similar honor on the same stage.
Kamala Harris and running mate Tim Walz were in Milwaukee on Tuesday, speaking to a crowd at Fiserv Forum during the second night of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, rallying additional support from swing-state Wisconsin.
She greeted the crowd at the conclusion of the roll call at the United Center, 90 miles to the south, that officially declared the country's Democratic delegates for Harris.
"And hello to everyone joining us from exciting Chicago," Harris said in remarks that were shared with the crowd in Chicago. "The delegates at the Democratic National Convention; well, they just completed their roll call, and they have nominated coach Walz and me to be the next vice president and president of the United States of America."
In 2020, Milwaukee lost a chance to host an in-person version of the DNC when it was eviscerated by the COVID-19 pandemic, and Joe Biden received his party's nomination in his home state of Delaware. In 2024, Wisconsin got two for the price of one ... not a bad way to break even.
The official announcement of Harris as nominee was made in Chicago on stage by Jason Rae, the Democratic National Committee secretary and a native of Rice Lake, Wisconsin.
