What to watch for as multiyear I-90 reconstruction ends this year in western Erie County

Construction on Interstate 90 in western Erie County will resume Tuesday.

The multi-year construction project will be finished this year with cleanup work, drainage improvements, landscaping and the installation of a cable barrier in the highway median.

Single eastbound and westbound lanes will be closed at times. Work is expected to be completed by August.

Work to reconstruct seven miles of the interstate in Springfield Township, Girard Township and Platea Borough began in 2021.

The $66 million project also included the emergency removal of the Route 18 bridge in Girard after it was struck and damaged by a truck; construction of new Route 215 and Route 18 bridges and a new eastbound bridge carrying I-90 over Neiger Road; and the construction of teardrop roundabouts at the Route 18 exit.
