West Seneca man sentenced for violating order of protections, burglary
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A West Seneca man was sentenced to nearly three decades in prison for repeatedly violating protective orders issued for a victim of domestic violence, the Erie County District Attorney’s Office said Wednesday.
Jason M. Mitchell, 44, was sentenced to an aggregate sentence of 26 1/3 to 29 years in prison.
Mitchell violated orders of protection against the victim multiple times by sending social media messages, showing up at the victim’s house and directing a third party to contact the victim, officials said. All of those incidents took place between September and November 2020.
Finally, on Nov. 26, 2020, Mitchell broke into the victim’s home with a sledgehammer, according to officials. The victim suffered a broken wrist as she tried to hold the door shut while Mitchell hit the door. Two children were home at the time.
In April, Mitchell was found guilty of the following:
two counts, first-degree burglary
two counts, first-degree criminal contempt
three counts, endangering the welfare of a child
three counts, second-degree criminal contempt
Final orders of protections were issued on behalf of the victim, her parents, three children and three witnesses, which remains in effect until November 2062.
