Major crash leaves corn spilled on I-84 roadway

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Traffic on Interstate 84 was impacted for much of Friday afternoon after officials closed the westbound lanes near Bridal Veil following a major crash involving two semi trucks, including one that spilled corn.

According to the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, the crash involved two commercial vehicles and one of the drivers had to be flown to a Portland hospital by a medical helicopter after being extricated from a semi.

One of the commercial trucks was carrying corn, which required extensive clean up.

As of 4:30 p.m. Friday, officials say all westbound lanes of I-84 reopened between Cascade Locks and Multnomah Falls. However, one westbound lane is closed near the crash site west of Multnomah Falls from mileposts 29-28.

Travelers should expect delays into the early evening as the traffic backup clears.

The incident is still under investigation.
