'We've got water baby': The Riverside Theater's marquee hypes Milwaukee's shoreline for RNC attendees

A spectacular view of Lake Michigan near Bradford Beach.

Water is central to life in Milwaukee ? a fact that likely surprised many RNC delegates this week.

The Cream City not only sits on Lake Michigan, but also at the confluence of three major rivers: the Milwaukee, Menomonee and Kinnickinnic.

That was exactly the message on that the Pabst Theater group highlighted Wednesday on the The Riverside Theater's marquee: “We’ve got the water, baby! Over 1,400 acres of sandy beaches.”

Each morning of RNC, the theater has updated it's flashing marquee with messages that are not just for visitors, but reminders to Milwaukeeans of why the city's so great.

And since its such a large body of water, sandy beaches may not be super surprising. But Lake Michigan even has thousands of shipwrecks, hundreds of sunken aircraft and even an underwater forest.

Oh, and there are even small tsunamis that happen around the lake.

In fact, Wisconsin is a water state in its own right. The state is flanked by Lake Michigan to the east, Lake Superior to the north and the Mississippi River ? the U.S.'s largest river ? to the west. And then it's filled with roughly 15,000 lakes in between, according to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

The count on how many lakes there are in the state has even started a rivalry with neighboring Minnesota.

On Tuesday, the historic theater spotlighted the city's amazing food scene. On Monday, the sign highlighted some of the multinational corporations headquartered in the city, such as Milwaukee Tool and Harley-Davidson.
