Where was Corey Comperatore sitting? How the firefighter became a victim
Corey Comperatore was killed during the assassination attempt at the Trump rally on Saturday in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Comperatore was sitting in the stands at the Butler Farm Show Grounds, behind former President Donald Trump, when the shooting took place.
He was reportedly shielding his family from the gunfire when he himself was fatally shot by Thomas Matthew Crooks.
The 20-year old shooter is said to have fired multiple shots with a semi-automatic AR-style rifle from a nearby rooftop before he was taken out by Secret Service counter snipers.
Crook's assassination attempt also injured Trump by piercing his ear, and wounded David Dutch, 57 from New Kensington, Pennsylvania and James Copenhaver, 74, from Moon Township, Pennsylvania.
Where was Corey Comperatore sitting?
Corey Comperatore, 50-year-old father of two from Sarver, Pennsylvania, was seated in the viewing stands behind Trump, who was less than 10 minutes into his speech when the shooting started.
The seats behind Trump, coveted by supporters for their proximity to the former president, are typically a few rows deep.
Fans and supporters in those seats are commonly dressed in patriotic garb or Trump-branded clothing and displaying signs with Trump catchphrases and enthusiastic endorsements.
Comperatore was with his family in that viewing section, though not directly in the front row. Images and video from the scene indicate he was more than two rows back at least and off to Trump’s left side.
