Where is the flooding in Eastern Kentucky? See photos, drone videos of the devastation
Eastern Kentucky is slowly being submerged by an onslaught of floods.
On Wednesday morning, reports began pouring in that much of the region was now swamped with water. Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear announced he is expecting "hundreds of people to lose their homes." And as of Friday morning, 16 people had died as a result of the disaster.
Here's a closer look at some of the areas hit the hardest:
Chavies, Kentucky, flooding
Garrett, Kentucky, flooding
Jackson, Kentucky, flooding
A single, stray life jacket was lost to the highway on the way in to Jackson.
Everything is strikingly green and overgrown where it’s not underwater.
While driving through, brackish flood water engulfed nearly entire homes, schools, playgrounds, churches. Entire communities. Goal posts from soccer nets, jungle gyms and the hood of peoples’ cars peeked through the top of the water in some places.
People dotted the hillsides and highways of small communities right outside Jackson, looking for personal belongings and surveying the damage to structures nearby.

This is the first video I’ve seen of the devastation in my little hometown. I’ve seen so many pictures, but this really shows how hard we got hit. Knott county will never recover. https://t.co/W3ZmTYGd0v
