Why aren't Kamala Harris and Tim Walz at the DNC tonight in Chicago? What to know about Milwaukee rally, watch party
Where is Kamala Harris tonight?
The Democratic presidential nominee made a surprise appearance on stage Monday during the first night of the 2024 Democratic National Convention before taking a seat with her husband, Douglas Emhoff, as well as her running mate Tim Walz and his wife, Gwen, inside the United Center in Chicago.
She was shown often as the likes of New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and 2016 Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton gave her glowing endorsements, and finally President Joe Biden passed the torch to Harris.
Tuesday's lineup features another all-star cast of Democrats that includes former president Barack Obama, who will pitch to the American people why Harris should be the next president of the United States.
But Harris won't be at the United Center to hear them in-person. She'll be in Milwaukee at Fiserv Forum for a rally and watch party.
Here's why Kamala Harris and Tim Walz will be in Milwaukee on Tuesday:
Where is Kamala Harris tonight?
Harris is holding a rally at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Tuesday night. Her running mate, Tim Walz, will also be there.
Fiserv Forum is home to the Milwaukee Bucks in downtown Milwaukee.
What time is Kamala Harris speaking in Milwaukee?
She's set to take the stage at 8 p.m.
Afterward, she and Walz will hold a DNC watch party inside Fiserv Forum with supporters. They'll watch the prime-time speakers together. These include former president Barack Obama, former first lady Michelle Obama and second gentleman Douglas Emhoff.
Why is Kamala Harris in Milwaukee tonight?
Wisconsin is a key battleground state in the 2024 presidential election and candidates from both parties are putting a focus on the state in an effort to win the 10 electoral votes.
Donald Trump accepted the Republican nomination for president inside Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee last month during the Republican National Convention and now Harris will greet supporters in the same arena as the Democratic nominee while the DNC is taking place in neighboring Illinois.
Milwaukee is a huge base for the Democrats. It's also just a 90-mile drive north from Chicago, the site of the DNC.
Harris has put a focus on Wisconsin since launching her campaign. She held her first rally as the nominee in West Allis, a city in Milwaukee County, last month. Harris hosted a huge rally in Eau Claire in western Wisconsin with Walz as part of a tour of battleground states a couple weeks ago to continue her momentum since taking over the top of the ticket.
Harris has strong roots in Wisconsin. She spent her early childhood in Madison while her parents were professors at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
