Anthony asked our colleague Colin Campbell, who wrote a useful explainer on Kamala Harris's running mate Tim Walz, to break down the Minnesota governor's history and record.

Colin: I’d say Walz brings a unique folksy charisma to the ticket. He recently joked that JD Vance “can’t shoot pheasants like I can.” Look for the Harris campaign to deploy him in rural areas across key Midwest states.

Colin: I thought the Star Tribune had some great reporting on this: As Minnesota’s governor, he oversaw a long list of progressive priorities, including labor protections, education funding and infrastructure projects that included new climate initiatives.

Colin: A big one that I think is most relevant to Harris’s campaign: He enshrined abortion rights into Minnesota state law. He’s also backed gender-affirming care and recreational marijuana legalization.
