New Wichita County Auditor sworn in after predecessor suspended
WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — There’s a new face in the Wichita County Courthouse as the new County Auditor was sworn in Monday morning.
Texoma native Matt Davis was sworn in by 30th District Judge Jeff McKnight, with 78th District Judge Meredith Kennedy and 89th District Judge Charles Barnard present.
Labor Day closures to affect trash schedule
Davis, an MSU graduate, is no stranger to the Wichita County Auditor’s Office, as he worked there from 2011 to 2022.
Davis will be taking over as auditor after former County Auditor Cheryl Jones was not reappointed. In fact, just recently, we learned that the three district judges responsible for the auditor’s appointment held a special meeting last Friday.
A few days after Jones’ special meeting, the district judges issued a letter to her stating, “We have become aware that you have removed a substantial number of stakeholders’ ability to access the Tyler Munis platform software without justification. You are hereby notified that you are suspended throughout the end of your term.”
Both Judge Kennedy and McKnight said that instead of just reappointing auditors after the term is over, they’ll carefully review any applicants for the position when no one new applies.
