Wilkes-Barre prepares for Vice Presidential visit

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The presidential campaign is coming to Luzerne County on Friday. Vice-President Kamala Harris will hold a rally at Wilkes University.

Recent polling shows Harris and Former President Donald Trump in a statistical dead heat in a state seen as a must-win to capture the white house.

The eyes of the political world are once again on Luzerne County. Vice President Harris is scheduled to speak here at the McHale Athletic Center at around 7:00 p.m. Friday.

Voters 28/22 News spoke with say they will pay close attention to what she has to say.

“This is all about the ground game. It’s all about who is investing and reaching every single voter across the commonwealth,” said Harris-Walz Campaign Senior Spokesperson Kevin Munoz.

That is one of the reasons Vice President Harris will be at Wilkes University on Friday, so says Munoz.

Final preparations were being done inside and outside the McHale Athletic Center.

“Well, look what we are going to do is make sure that we win Pennsylvania because it’s a critical state absolutely to the White House,” Munoz explained.

Students at Wilkes University are excited about the event.

“I feel like our generation especially is very invested in this like campaign and this election. I feel like this election is very pivotal and very integral,” Wilkes University student Ebun Shokumzi said.

“I think it’s, be the first time the majority of Gen Z will be voting. I want to see what kind of impact it brings to the polls and everything,” said Thomas Sorial, a Wilkes University student.

Local business owners say the campaign rally helps put a spotlight on them and the city.

“It’s actually very exciting to have the vice president come to Wilkes-Barre again. The eyes of the world it’s a very exciting thing,” said Franco’s Pizza Owner Rosa Bellia.

Gene Ziemba is chairman of the GOP in Luzerne County.

“There’s no doubt that Luzerne County is key to Pennsylvania, keys to the keystone state and the keystone state whoever wins Pennsylvania gets their electoral votes, holds the key to the election,” said Ziemba.

Vice President Harris is expected to speak at around 7:00 p.m. Friday.
