Wisconsin man sentenced to federal prison for possessing firearm as a convicted felon
FITCHBURG, Wis. (WFRV) – A 23-year-old Wisconsin man was sentenced to federal prison for possessing a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon.
According to a release, U.S. District Judge William Conley sentenced Damariyah Muhammad, 23, of Fitchburg, to 45 months in prison for the crime. His sentence will be followed by three years of supervised release.

Court records show that law enforcement sought to arrest Muhammad on Jan. 8, 2024, for charges related to domestic disorderly conduct and hit and run. When detectives encountered Muhammad, he fled.
Muhammad slipped in the snow and dropped a firearm, which law enforcement immediately recovered and identified as a loaded Glock 9mm handgun with a 31-round extended magazine.
The Wisconsin State Crime Lab confirmed Muhammad’s DNA was present on the gun. He is prohibited from legally possessing firearms and ammunition because of prior felony convictions.
At the sentencing, Judge Conley considered Muhammad’s continued escalating criminal behavior, which has involved possession of high-capacity firearms and violent activity.

Judge Conley also noted that Muhammad had opportunities to reflect on his crimes and multiple resources available to help him. Still, he did not accept those opportunities and squandered them.
The charge against Muhammad was the result of an investigation conducted by the ATF Madison Crime Gun Task Force, which consists of federal agents from the ATF and Task Force Officers (TFOs) from local agencies, including the Dane County and Clark County Sheriff’s Offices and the Fitchburg, Madison, Sun Prairie, and La Crosse Police Departments.
