CHICAGO – Wisconsin U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin will address the Democratic National Convention Thursday evening, according to her campaign.

The Madison Democrat, in a closely watched reelection race, plans to deliver remarks from the convention stage at the United Center in the "early evening," a campaign spokesman told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Her campaign Tuesday morning did not share details of her speech, and it was not clear at what time she planned to address the convention.

Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson plans to address delegates from the United Center on Wednesday. He told the Journal Sentinel he will speak alongside another mayor that day.

Baldwin faces Republican banking executive Eric Hovde in November. She enters the convention riding the wave of Democratic enthusiasm after President Joe Biden dropped out of the race and Vice President Kamala Harris became the new Democratic presidential nominee.

She had avoided avoided appearing with Biden and dodged questions about the president’s viability as Democrats called on him to step aside and enthusiasm waned. But she's since embraced Harris and called Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, “new beginning for our party and our country."

“Frankly, having Kamala and Tim at the top of the ticket — young people are enthusiastic, communities of color are enthusiastic,” Baldwin recently told the Journal Sentinel this month. “All the folks that people were worried might stay home, I think, are re-engaged and back in the fold.”

Baldwin's speech puts another spotlight on Wisconsin, which has been the center of attention in the early stages of the convention.

Harris and Walz will rally supporters in Fiserv Forum later Tuesday for an event the campaign has billed as a rally and watch party wrapped into one.
