Wisconsin Sheriff’s Office participating in Speed Enforcement Day on July 31 to promote safe driving
(WFRV) – At least one County Sheriff’s Office in Wisconsin is participating in a campaign to enforce speed limits and raise awareness about the dangers of speeding.
The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook that they will be joining law enforcement officers across the Midwest on Wednesday, July 31, as part of the Speed Awareness Day campaign.

The post added that speeding is more than illegal and that the consequences are vast:
Greater potential for loss of vehicle control;
Reduced effectiveness of occupant protection equipment;
Increased stopping distance after the driver perceives a danger;
Increased degree of crash severity leading to more severe injuries;
Economic implications of a speed-related crash; and
Increased fuel consumption/cost.
The campaign is approached from two angles, with a zero-tolerance enforcement policy and communication with drivers on the value of following the speed limit.

According to the post, the campaign intends to save lives and remind people that there’s no reason to speed. Data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says that there were 12,151 speeding-related crashes in 2022.
The NHTSA also said that 29% of total traffic deaths in 2022 were from speeding-related crashes.
