Wisconsin State Patrol helps safely find a missing 74-year-old hunter
(WFRV) – Troopers in western Wisconsin say they were recently called in to work alongside local law enforcement by providing air support while searching for a missing 74-year-old hunter.
According to a release from the Wisconsin State Patrol (WSP), the “specialized capabilities” of its WSP Air Support Unit (ASU) were recently requested by the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office to assist in looking for a hunter who had gone missing on a 13,000-acre nature reserve.
The 74-year-old had gone missing the day prior and troopers from the Wisconsin State Patrol assisted in the search through the thickly wooded area with swamps, streams, and ponds.
A WSP plane was also dispatched to help in the search of the area and eventually spotted someone shining a light at them from below.
The troopers in the plane were then able to contact troopers on the ground along with a DNR warden nearby on a boat who went to shore and walked about three-fourths of a mile before finding the missing hunter.
The hunter reportedly told authorities that he was okay but was lost and thirsty. Within 15 minutes of finding the 74-year-old a fire department UTV was sent to the location.
Officials say the hunter was then taken safely from the area before being evaluated and medically cleared.
