Woman arrested in connection with fatal Jefferson Parish hit-and-run crash

JEFFERSON PARISH, La. (WGNO) — A Westwego woman has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run crash that left a pedestrian dead in Jefferson Parish.

On Aug. 15, the Louisiana State Police reported that troopers responded to the crash on Jefferson Highway near Claiborne Court around 11:45 p.m.

LSP officials said an initial investigation showed that 37-year-old Sue Ella Cechman was trying to cross Jefferson Highway at Claiborne Court when a car driving west hit her and allegedly left the scene.

Cechman was taken to a hospital, where she later died.

LSP officials described the car believed to be involved in the crash as a dark-colored sedan with possible damage to the front.

On Saturday, Aug. 24, LSP officials said they identified 36-year-old Britney Holmes as the suspect.

According to the LSP, Holmes allegedly hit Cechman while driving a Nissan Sentra and “took actions to conceal evidence of the crash.”

Holmes was arrested and faces charges of manslaughter, obstruction of justice and hit-and-run driving.

The investigation is ongoing.
