Woman charged with attempted murder after shooting at Baton Rouge home
BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — An investigation into a shooting led to the arrest of a Baton Rouge woman.
Ashley Washington, 39, was charged with attempted second-degree murder, simple criminal damage to property, aggravated assault and illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities.
She showed up without notice at a man’s home on 77th Avenue around 8 a.m. Tuesday, July 9 to talk to him about him no longer wanting to be engaged and having another girlfriend, according to police. Washington is accused of threatening to kill him and the other woman during a phone call.

Washington left the home in the vehicle and the man then left the home “in fear for his life,” according to the affidavit. Police said he later headed back home to check on his elderly father.
His vehicle was rammed by Washington’s vehicle on the way back to his house and he went inside the home to get away from her, according to BRPD. Police documents said Washington “walked up the driveway and shot his vehicle multiple times.”
She was later taken into custody by an officer and put into handcuffs in the 2700 block of 77th Avenue.
Washington told police that she did not hit the man’s vehicle or shoot at him. The Baton Rouge woman said she was trying to shoot the windshield out because she couldn’t open the driver’s front door, according to the affidavit. She told police that she did go back to the man’s home and shot at his vehicle.
BRPD determined that the driver’s front door worked and they found a gun along with spent shell casings in the vehicle. The amount of spent shell casings found in the vehicle matched the number of bullet holes in the windshield, police said.
Three spent shell casings were also found in the man’s driveway, according to BRPD.
The Baton Rouge woman was arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on Tuesday, July 9.
