Woman found strangled with ‘bite mark’ on her stomach near French Quarter
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The Orleans Parish coroner has identified a woman who was found dead with a head injury and a bite mark on her body near the French Quarter.
On Monday, Aug. 19, the New Orleans Police Department reported that an unresponsive woman with head trauma and a bite mark on her abdomen was found in the 0-10 block of Esplanade Avenue around 8:16 a.m.

She was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS. The NOPD initially classified the incident as an unclassified death.
On Thursday, Aug. 22, the Orleans Parish coroner identified the woman as 44-year-old Patricia Fitzgerald, and the investigation was reclassified as a homicide.

According to the coroner’s office, Fitzgerald’s cause of death was “blunt force injuries and manual strangulation.”
