Woman killed while trying to protect another from alleged gunman in Dublin
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – An 18-year-old woman who was killed early Sunday morning in Dublin was attempting to intervene in an ongoing dispute between the alleged shooter and another woman.
According to court documents, Mika Cannon and a woman were involved in an argument on Saturday, June 21 in the 6100 block of O’Sweeney Lane, near Tuttle Crossing Boulevard.

Police said Kiara Nelson, also in the home, intervened and was able to separate the two. Cannon, 22, left the apartment, police said, but later returned and the three went out to replace damaged items in the home.
Later that day the two reportedly began arguing again on the phone. The woman, who was back at the Dublin residence, noticed Cannon returning to the apartment by seeing his location on her phone. Police said she and Nelson attempted to barricade the door with a couch, but police said Cannon broke through.
Nelson attempted to restrain Cannon while the woman ran up to her bedroom to retrieve her phone. The woman told police she heard a gunshot and Nelson scream, “Mika!” Court documents stated the woman returned downstairs and found Nelson on the floor and Cannon leaving the apartment.
Officers responded at 12:30 a.m. and said Nelson was suffering from a gunshot wound. She was taken to a nearby hospital but later pronounced dead at 1:51 a.m.
The following day a warrant was issued for Cannon’s arrest, and on Tuesday he was placed into custody, facing murder charges. A Franklin County Municipal judge issued Cannon a $2 million bond and scheduled a preliminary hearing for July 5.
