MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A South Memphis woman continues to face the struggles of single motherhood after the devastating loss of her fiancé last summer.

Six months have passed since the death of Tomanuel Benson, the younger brother of Memphis rapper Blac Youngsta.

But the recent arrest of alleged gunman Randy Ewing has brought long-awaited relief to Benson’s former fiancé.

Mikeisha Lott has a tough road ahead, dealing with sleepless nights and a bunch of medications for her depression and anxiety. For months, she’s tried to keep the death of her fiancé under wraps from her young children.

“I don’t want to tell the whole thing because of my kids,” she said. “I go to counseling still to this day. My kids go to counseling. I have sleepless nights, longer days, especially around the holidays.”

Ewing is facing multiple charges, including second-degree murder, and has a bond of over $1 million. According to investigators, Ewing shot Benson in the back of the head after an argument.

“We were on the phone talking. He was like ‘I’m about to stop at a store,'” Lott said. “He never got to call me back. He saw the guy that was trying to steal my truck I guess they got in an argument.”

Lott told us the story of how she was informed of Benson’s death.

“His cousin called me. She was like, ‘I don’t know if you know.’ I was like, ‘Know what?’ She was like, ‘He’s okay, I know he’s okay I just got off the phone with him. She was like, ‘Just come quick, come quick,'” she said. “I drove so fast just to get there. I didn’t expect this though.”

Lott said when she saw the officers and police tape, that was when she knew something was wrong.

Lott wanted to end all the rumors that her fiancé’s death was revenge for the killing of Young Dolph, his brother’s former rival.

“This situation has nothing to do with that. I knew that the blogs were going to do that,” Lott said. “We can end all that. None of his brothers’ deaths had anything to do with Young Dolph’s situation.”

Lott said Benson was a neighborhood hero and doesn’t want him to be remembered as just the little brother of Blac Youngsta. He was the backbone of their family.

“I always loved my dad. Anytime anything happened he was there to protect me. I loved him a lot. If I had anything wrong, I’d call him and he’d come save the day,” said Benson’s son.

Ewing’s next court date is set for March 1.
