Arrest made after infant found alone in New Orleans East

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The New Orleans Police Department has arrested a woman who was wanted for questioning after an infant was found alone in the Plum Orchard neighborhood.
On Wednesday, July 31, NOPD officers were made aware of a 12 to 15-month-old infant being found near the corner of Chef Menteur Highway and Wilson Drive.

On Thursday, Aug. 1, police reported the child and his mother were identified.
Through an investigation, officers identified 23-year-old Makayla Ryan as a person of interest wanted for questioning and was detained by NOPD officers.
NOPD officials later announced Ryan’s arrest in connection with the investigation.

According to the NOPD, Ryan is not related to the child and is facing a charge of falsifying a police report.
NOPD investigators also said the child’s mother was identified and located. However, “the mother is not currently able to physically care for the child. As such, the child will remain in the custody of the Louisiana Department of Child and Family Services as the situation is further assessed.”
