BROWN COUNTY, Wis. (WFRV) – Authorities in Brown County say, “Yes, the scams continue!” as they warn of multiple scams going around again.
According to a social media post from the Brown County Sheriff’s Office, two scams have recently been making the rounds again.
With the first scam, officials say they have seen a surge of phone calls, with the scammers identifying themselves as a deputy and demanding Bitcoin payments for active warrants.

The second scam is said to hit on a more personal level as scammers reportedly use the potential victim’s personal information including their name, phone number, and a photo of their house in an email that then threatens to release other personal information if a Bitcoin payment is not received.
Deputies say that these scams can come at potential victims on a personal, emotional, and sometimes threatening level, however, the potential victim should not go through with the payment.
Officials add that anyone who receives an email or call that seems off or doesn’t appear right should view it as likely being a part of a new scam.
The Brown County Sheriff’s Office states, “Don’t be a victim, be your own first line of defense!”
