YFN Lucci Receives Early Release Co-Sign As 2020 Shooting Footage Emerges
YFN Lucci has been pushing for a commuted sentence, and District Attorney Fani Willis has no objection to the idea.
On Tuesday (July 23), WSB-TV obtained a copy of Fulton County DA Fani Willis’ letter to the State Board of Pardons and Paroles supporting a potential early release for the rapper. The Atlanta artist’s criminal defense attorney, Drew Findling, spoke to the news outlet about the groundbreaking move from Willis. “The District Attorney of Fulton County did the unorthodox,” Findling expressed. “That letter from the district attorney is a powerful punch and is really at the heart of the letter and supporting documents and the memorandum that we have shared with the parole board.”
Findling stated that he and his team are attempting to get the rapper, né Rayshawn Bennett, home early. However, the artist’s criminal defense attorney explained that Bennett may not be officially released until January 2025.
DA Willis’ letter was originally penned in June. The DA’s missive states that the State doesn’t object to Bennett being released from corrections when he is eligible for parole or “after serving one-third of his prison sentence, whichever comes first.” But, there are conditions the artist must follow.

“This recommendation by the State is conditioned upon the Defendant’s compliance with the lawful authority of all Department of Corrections personnel and having had no incidents of any kind in any facility in which he has been housed while in the custody of the Department of Corrections,” the letter reads. “Attached to this letter is a file-stamped copy of the Defendant’s Final Disposition. Should any of the Board Members have questions regarding the State’s recommendation, please feel free to contact my office anytime.”
YFN Lucci was arrested in January 2021 for his role as the driver in a deadly Atlanta shooting. This January, Rayshawn Bennett pleaded guilty to one count of violating the Street Gang and Terrorism Prevention Act. He was given a 20-year sentence and was expected to serve half of that sentence in custody. That same month it was reported that the rapper had managed to strike a plea deal allowing him to serve 3.5 months in jail and be released to serve the rest on probation. As per the Associated Press, the plea deal “will allow him to get back to his children, family and career.”
Additionally, a clip of the shooting emerged online on Tuesday (July 23). WSB-TV shared the surveillance footage showing what went down during that deadly 2020 shooting.
Footage shows a white vehicle driving slowly past a couple of men, with one of them cleaning their car. An unknown person then fires a gun from the white vehicle, aiming it at the men down the street. YFN Lucci, who was deemed the alleged driver in the shooting, wasn’t seen in the newly released video.
