New York Gov. Kathy Hochul and Maryland Gov. Wes Moore sign Packers cheesehead hats at DNC
Though both are fans of National Football League teams in their own home states, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul and Maryland Gov. Wes Moore gave the Green Bay Packers some recognition at the Democratic National Convention.
The Democratic governors signed their name on cheesehead hats while attending the Wisconsin delegation's breakfast Monday, the first day of the convention.
"As a lifelong (Buffalo) Bills fan, I’d prefer a folding table over a Cheesehead — but I’m committed to doing whatever it takes to win in November, even if it means signing some Packers gear for the (Wisconsin Democrats) with (Gov. Wes Moore)," Hochul wrote on social media.
Moore responded by saying there are 41 days until the Baltimore Ravens play the Buffalo Bills, and 78 days until Election Day. "Looking forward to winning both," he said.
The Packers play the Ravens this Saturday in the last preseason game but will play neither the Ravens nor the Bills during the regular season.
Democratic Party of Wisconsin communications director Joe Oslund said the delegation has about four or five cheeseheads and are trying to get them signed by as many speakers as possible. At the end of the week, there will be a drawing for delegates to take them home.
Wisconsin delegates at the Republican National Convention also wore cheeseheads on the convention floor, leading to some confusion among those unfamiliar with the Wisconsin tradition. Nightly programming has not yet started, so it's not certain whether Democratic delegates will do the same.

Former President Donald Trump also gave the Packers a shout-out in his acceptance speech at the RNC in Milwaukee, saying he thought Wisconsin would have "a great team this year."
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz also attended the Wisconsin delegation breakfast Monday morning and called himself a "Kwik Trip guy," referring to the popular gas station chain in Wisconsin. Prominent Democrats are likely to continue highlighting Wisconsin throughout the week — it's a critical swing state for both parties.
"Let me tell you about something you might understand: This is your fifth Super Bowl opportunity," Hochul said during her remarks at the breakfast, referring to the 2024 election. "Green Bay Packers kind of energy."
