Young Thug’s YSL RICO Trial Delayed Again Due To Suspension Of Lil Woody’s Lawyer
The YSL RICO trial has hit yet another snag as the proceedings have been halted due to the suspension of the attorney for star witness and Young Thug associate Lil Woody.
On Tuesday (Aug. 13), it was announced that The Georgia Supreme Court handed Lil Woody’s lawyer, Jonathan Melnick, a six-month suspension stemming from his engagement in misconduct in connection to a 2017 child support case, thus rendering him unable to continue representing his client.
As a result of Melnick’s suspension, Lil Woody, born Kenneth Copeland, refused to provide any further testimony due to his lack of proper legal counsel. However, Judge Paige Reese Whitaker had already prearranged to appoint a new attorney, Mr. Engelberger, to represent Lil Woody in light of the unforeseen circumstances.
According to 11Alive, Whitaker, the third judge appointed to preside over the YSL RICO trial, would adjourn court early, citing a “scheduling and procedural hiccup,” thus dragging along the lengthiest trial in Georgia state history even further.
Lil Woody would hop on Instagram himself to lament and vent his frustrations over his attorney’s sudden departure and being without legal aid, placing the controversial YSL member further into the spotlight and adding suspense surrounding his ongoing testimony.
The YSL RICO trial has been filled with various twists and turns, many of which have grabbed headlines due to the sheer absurdity surrounding them.
In addition to the trial’s first judge, Ural Glanville, being recused from the case and another removing herself due to a romantic relationship between her former courthouse deputy and one of the defendants, a lawyer for the defense was arrested after bringing drugs into court during the trial. These occurrences, as well as retracted statements from Copeland, have resulted in mounting reasonable doubt in Young Thug’s favor as the proceedings continue to unwind.
