The Zodiac's 'Goldilocks': What to know about Gemini signs' compatibility, dates, more
Gemini, the Zodiac sign which rules the final days of May and much of the month of June, is an air sign known for its love of change and its ability to shift from topic to topic with ease. Symbolized by a set of twins, it is both deeply independent and in search of a lifelong partner.
But how can you tell a Gemini from the rest? What makes them tick?
Gemini horoscope: Take a look at the week, and moth ahead
In conversation with astrologer Wade Caves, USA TODAY explores Gemini sign's key personality traits, approach to relationships and career, and their strengths and weaknesses.
Caves says looking to the stars for guidance is common among many faiths. "There's very ancient associations that we can draw from even the Judeo-Christian tradition that are going be pointing to there being some kind of pattern behind the veil essentially," he explains.

Key personality traits of Geminis
"Geminis are in constant communication," Caves tells me, "They like to chat a lot."
They like diversity in all things and struggle to commit for too long. "It's like a Goldilocks sign," Caves says, "It doesn't like extremes really."
Geminis generally are more interested in studying many things than in going really deep into one thing, he explains. Their strengths are agility and dexterity between subjects. "In the best-case scenario, the Gemini uses their ability to pick up a little bit from everywhere to become a super generalist," he explains.
Geminis are very youthful as well; they avoid anything that feels archaic and too tied to the old guard. They want to be involved in making things happen and have a tendency to challenge things, Caves says.
Geminis like to be around people and find particular joy in putting their energy towards human benefit.
Career
Because Geminis are so versatile, they're able to step into most people's shoes in the workplace.
Geminis make great journalists, and consultants, Caves says, explaining they do best in situations where they have to make a connection, but then disconnect and reconnect somewhere else quickly. The ever-changing nature of these jobs helps keep the curiosity alive, he says.
"Gemini is an air sign," Caves explains, "It likes to feel as though there's a fresh change of air that happens, fairly, regularly."
Relationships
Geminis like to avoid heaviness, Caves explains. "What’s certain is that they want their interactions and their relationships to be light," he says, "so they have a tendency to avoid conflict."
Given their desire to avoid conflict, Geminis will try to sweep things under the rug for as long as they're able, and when they are confronted, they might resort to clever misdirection. "If you think you're coming to confront this issue, watch out because there might be this other one waiting in the wing that will throw you off that you didn't see coming," Caves says. The hope is that this will push people to drop something and move on.
The size of a Gemini's inner circle is largely dependent on the individual, but they are often able to expand beyond that circle with ease.
Gemini is symbolized by the twin, so they do have a deep desire to find their partner in crime and to face on the world together. "Over time is they begin to search for that other twin," Caves explains. That said, Geminis are deeply independent, and not likely to despair too much should a relationship end.
"At the end of the day, the real question comes down to how much their curiosity is titillated by a certain individual," Caves says, "as long as I haven't figured you out completely, there's still more to do."
Strengths
A Gemini is often an excellent people person. Their interest in many different areas allows them to seamlessly make quick connections with all different types of people.
However, this quality can also translate to a struggle to commit, and that struggle can be the source of some insecurities. Geminis might find themselves asking, "Where's my specialty? What's my angle?" Caves says.
Geminis are incredibly curious, Caves adds, and their thirst for knowledge drives much of their life's path both in career and relationships. They want to have their interest piqued often and do their best when they can use their dexterity by moving from role to role. Getting along with people from all walks of life is another Gemini greatest strength.
Weaknesses
Since Geminis do their best in the workplace when they can flit from place to place, they tend to feel stifled in roles that require longstanding or institutional knowledge of a subject, Caves says. They can be a bit noncommittal and struggle to look at something too in-depth before switching to something else out of boredom.
Geminis are also non-confrontational, which can be a good thing, but at the same time, Caves says sometimes they don't fight fair. They are likely to bring up separate or old grievances in a sort of surprise attack once they are confronted so as not to have to face an issue head-on. They would rather overwhelm their argument partner so that in the end everything is dropped and can once again be swept under the rug.
