Kate Middleton, Prince William Welcome Baby Girl!

It’s a girl! Kate Middleton and Prince William have welcomed their second child, Her Royal Highness Princess of Cambridge.

The royal baby was born on Saturday, May 2, at 8:34 am BST, at the Lindo Wing of St. Mary’s Hospital in London after less than three hours of labor. She weighs 8 pounds, 3 ounces.

The birth was announced in a statement from Kensington Palace and on Twitter. "The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and members of both families have been informed and are delighted with the news," it read.

The news was also announced outside the hospital, by a town crier in full costume. "May our princess be long-lived, happy and glorious," he said. Royal fans outside the hospital chanted "Princess! Princess!" in reaction.

Middleton was admitted to the hospital at 6 am, according to Kensington Palace. Prince William was by her side. The couple's daughter, whose name has not been revealed, will be fourth in line to the British throne.

Middleton had a tough first trimester, suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum, a severe form of morning sickness that includes weight loss and extreme nausea. She also experienced the condition while carrying Prince George and during both pregnancies, the emergency medical treatment she received forced the royal couple to prematurely announce their baby news. However, Middleton sailed through the remainder of her second pregnancy by appearing routinely at royal events, sharing her baby’s first kicks with the public, and even remarking to a fan, “I sometimes forget I am pregnant” during her eighth month. And of course, rocking her trademark chic maternity clothing.

Hopefully the birth went as smoothly as it did with Prince George — according to a story published by Vanity Fair, Middleton told friends that the labor and delivery with her firstborn was “natural,” “straightforward,” and “perfect.”

It’s unclear when the royal couple is scheduled to leave St. Mary’s but we’ll definitely meet the pint-size royal on the way out, per an announcement from Kensington Palace in early April. When Prince George was born in 2013, Middleton and Prince William also showed off their son for throngs of photographers who had camped outside the hospital for weeks, hoping to catch a shot of Middleton arriving while in labor. And if we’re lucky, this time around Prince George will join his parents for the photo op (up until recently, the royal couple was unsure as to whether Prince George would meet his little sibling at the hospital). We last saw the toddler in March when his grandfather Prince Charles, Prince of Wales allowed an adorable framed image of the boy wearing a blue jumper and a white hat, to appear on camera behind him during a promotional video.

Once home, the second-time parents will settle in with the help of their nanny Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo, who has been living with the couple in Apartment 1a in Kensington Palace since March 2014.

Borrallo will undoubtedly have her hands full chasing after George and helping to care for his newborn sibling (the royal couple will not be hiring additional staff for their new baby) but Prince William will be present as well. Although the prince started a civilian job as an air ambulance helicopter pilot in March, he’ll take two weeks off to bond with his new child, per Kensington Palace. It will be his second paternity leave — when Prince George was born, his father took a two-week leave from his gig as a Royal Air Force search and rescue pilot, a historic move as no other male member of the royal family had taken paternity leave in the past. Per U.K. law, fathers are entitled to two weeks of paid leave, and in some cases, an additional 26 weeks of paid leave.
