Just give her a reason to show the world what positive parenting sounds like.

Singer Pink schooled a few of her harsher critics on Twitter Sunday evening, responding to remarks that she looked “fat” and needs to lose weight after a new photo of her wearing a black dress at the John Wayne 30th Annual Odyssey Ball in Beverly Hills, Calif. on Saturday was posted online. “I feel beautiful,“ she tweeted to her 26 million followers. "So, my good and concerned peoples, please don’t worry about me (sic). I’m not worried about me. And I’m not worried about you either.”

“I am perfectly fine,” she continued in the inspirational note that was since marked “favorite” by more than 10,000 people and re-tweeted 3,500 times. “[I’m] perfectly happy, and my healthy, voluptuous and crazy strong body is having some much deserved time off."

And the 35-year-old mother didn’t stop at that. She posted an image of her alongside her 3-year-old daughter captioned, “Willow said to me the other day whilst grabbing my belly -"mama-why r u so squishy?"And I said.."b/cuz I’m happy baby."

Pink is a positive role model, according to Sarah Maria, body image expert and author of Love Your Body, Love Your Life. “It is essential that a parent teaches their children to value their bodies and themselves, and the very best way to do that is to accept one’s own body,” she tells Yahoo Parenting. “It sounds like Pink did an excellent job.”

The performer’s proclamation is a valuable message for not only her child but for every child to hear, she adds. “It is important when public figures speak up for themselves, as it sets a positive example for their fans, as well as their critics.”

Pink’s followers have even started replying in kind. One fan posted a photo of herself to Pink’s Twitter page with the message: “It’s squishy, too, but it was the vessel for 3 little badasses. Love the love.” Another chimed in: “You’re amazing, gained pregnancy weight, never able to lose. Wouldn’t change it for the world.”

When it comes to celebrating each other’s myriad shapes and sizes, after all, we’re in this together, says Maria. “The more people become accepting of themselves and others, the greater the likelihood of a lasting change in the direction of body acceptance, which would benefit everyone.”
