Among Bryson Batts' favorite things: Doctor Strange and Rod Wave, but not Gatorade

Faces off the field gives a deeper look into the thoughts and lives of high school student-athletes in the Austin area. Today we feature Bryson Batts, a senior running back for Austin High who has been playing football since he was 3.

All about Bryson: No Gatorade for me, thanks

Tell something about you that most people don't know.

Something about me most people don’t know is that I haven’t ever drank Gatorade, juice or soda in my life. I’ve only drank water and milk. You can ask anyone who really knows me.

If you could be any superhero, who would you be?

I would want to be Doctor Strange because who wouldn’t want to teleport to places and control time?

Bryson Batts said football became his primary sport at 3 years old. He relishes his freshman year, when he and his fellow freshmen played a part as the Maroons went 7-3.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

I don’t really have any places in mind because I don’t like traveling.

If you could attend any concert, whom would you see?

I would want to go see Rod Wave because that’s my favorite artist.

What's your favorite meal?

I love a good chicken fried chicken.

When you were growing up, was football your only game or did you try others?

Football has always been my primary sport since I was 3, but I have tried other sports such as track, basketball and baseball.

Staying in character, becoming a leader

What has been your favorite football memory at Austin High?

My favorite memory is probably my freshman year when we finished the season 7-3. That's when the Austin High School class of 2025 gained the coaches' respect.

Has football taught you any lessons you apply to daily life?

It has taught me some life lessons such as never letting another man get you out of character. If you want to be a leader, you have to be vocal and you have to bring your teammates up even when you’re down.

What does your body feel like the day after a physical game and how do you deal with it?

My body feels like it needs a whole factory reset.

Dream dinner: let Gates or MJ pick up the tab

If you could have dinner with any four people in the history of the world, who would they be?

I'd pick (Honduran self-proclaimed herbalist healer) Dr. Sebi, Tupac, Michael Jackson and Bill Gates.

Why did you pick Dr. Sebi?

I picked Dr. Sebi because I want to know what really happened to him and I also want to know all of his health secrets.
