Arizona Diamondbacks rival Shohei Ohtani makes history with 50 homer/50 stolen base season

In the first year of his historic $700 million contract with the Diamondbacks' favorite rival, the Los Angeles Dodgers, Shohei Ohtani has so far earned every penny.

He reached the 50 home run/50 stolen base mountaintop Thursday in Miami, lifting a homer over the opposite field fence in left during the seventh inning of the Dodgers-Marlins game in loanDept Park.

Ohtani touts a perfect 5-for-5 day to this point with three runs scored and seven RBIs as the 14 to 3 drubbing over Miami plays into the late innings. After the two-run tater, he strengthened his slash line to .293/.375/.624 and boasted 50 homers, 117 RBIs and 51 stolen bases.

And do not forget that this campaign comes in a season he was unable to pitch in, as he recovered from an elbow (UCL) injury. He is on schedule to pitch next season, however, and touts a career record of 38-19 to go along with a 3.01 ERA and 1.08 WHIP.
